NORWAY EXAMPLE Scandinavian model of modernization as a success story (part 2)

Abstract

The article is devoted to the peculiarities andanalysis of the cultural and psychological factorsof Norwegian modernization. It is shown thatthe basis for the success of Norway and otherScandinavian countries was the values of educationand social cohesion, everyday self-governmentpractices, the development of communicative andargumentative rationality, and self-discipline ofthe elites. It is noted that throughout the twentiethcentury Russia’s development was correlatedwith European civilization, while in Europe itselfvarious models of development are presented.Among these models, the Scandinavian model ofmodernization is of most interest today. It is arguedthat northern modernity is more in tune with thesociocultural characteristics and value expectationsof Russians, for the underlying ideas about socialjustice are historically significant for our society.The prospect of a Scandinavian landmark inRussian modernization allows us to focus on thoseeveryday practices and values, the lack of which hashistorically hindered civilizational development,but their latent growth is taking place today. Firstly,these are the values of solidarity and personalautonomy, the combination of which underlies civicmaturity. Civil society requires independence andcritical thinking from a person, and a developedpersonality approaches human values. Secondly, this is the priority of the values of education andself-development over safety and survival, whichis achieved in a human-friendly socioculturalenvironment and contribute to the successfultransformation into the present. Thirdly, thedifferentiation of forms of rationality (instrumental,interpretative, argumentative, communicative, legal)also indicates the civic maturity of the individualand is an important factor in the success ofmodernization
