School teachers’ barriers and concerns when dealing with sex education topics

Abstract

The article reflects the results of a study that examined thework of school teachers when dealing with topics related tocomprehensive sex education in the framework of basic schoolsubjects such as biology, literature, social studies and others. Asa result of analyzing 23 in-depth semi-formalized interviews,2 groups were identified, including 5 types of fears that teachers have regarding sex education, and 3 mechanisms of protection against existing risks reflected in the fears that teachersresort to. In addition, a number of other topics have been identified, which were called “borderline” and were similar to theaforementioned in the way teachers deal with them.
